There are two types of analysis that can be done using video: technical or biomechanical analysis and tactical or notational analysis. There are software programs that can do both, for example Dartfish, which we have available in our department. Having said that players can analyze their squash without expensive software.
Below you can do a technical analysis of your video clip by comparing your stroke to Tim’s. Players are presented in ladder order, from #1 to #15.
You can do a tactical analysis of your match play here.
Compare your shot to Tim’s AND go to to compare your shot to one of the world’s leading female players & coaches, Liz Irving.
- If you open BOTH yours and Tim’s videos one-on-top-of-the-other you can compare them at each of the key points of the swing by using the “pause” button: backswing, start of downswing, impact point, and follow-through.
- Pay particular attention to grip, leading with elbow/butt, sitting down throughout stroke, role of left arm.
- The “feel” – the first few strokes should be a “stroking” feeling with the shoulder (like a drop shot from mid-court), and little straightening of the elbow joint; and the last one a “hitting” feeling with more body involvement and straightening of the elbow joint (like a hard, low drive).
- At the end of the season you will be able to see how much you have improved:)
