World’s First iPhone Webcast College Squash Match!

The Seven Sisters Squash Championship was held at Vassar College yesterday – the webcast of the Smith College number 1, Shanita Williams and her Wellesley College opponent was the first match webcast using the iPhone 3Gs and the Ustream webcasting app.  Technology and Web 2.0 guru Smith College Coach Tim Bacon has used both Twitter and YouTube to distribute video of his team’s matches in the past – this innovation was a natural one once the new iPhone came out in October.  Parents and family of international students have been particularly appreciative of Bacon’s efforts as a way of staying current with their daughter’s accomplishments.

Smith College finished third in the competition, soundly beating their archrivals Wellesley by a score of 7-2 – with #1 Williams (only returning to squash competition four weeks ago) losing narrowly 13-11 in the fifth – after being down 2-0.

Here is the team relaxing at the Championship reception after two tough matches!

You can watch the video of the Webcast at the team’s Ustream channel – you may have to flip your laptop on the side – or watch the video in bed (better) as apparently the iPhone 3Gs landscape moe is not supported by Ustream (yet)!
