The 2010-11 Smith College Squash Team had their first event of the year: The Smith College Fall Fit 5K – an event to support the Northampton Education Foundation run by the Smith College Department of Athletics. This is the events third year and all team members posted their best times. The 5K is perhaps the best overall fitness test for the aerobic system – very important for squash players. The 5K utilizes the same fiber types as squash (fast oxidative glycolytic) and new squash scoring system match times (24-40 minutes) are very similar to 5K non-elite times.
The Smith Team volunteered to dismantle the Fitness Festival (where Coach Tim Bacon ran a post-race foam roller and tennis ball myofascial release session for participants) after everyone went home – but first they cooled down with some Bouncy House action.
