Smith Squash Defies Snow Emergency: And Trains Anyway!

The Northeast is in a shambles with both the town of Northampton (America’s #1 Liberal Arts Town) and Smith College declaring a snow “emergency” – one of only a handful of times that Smith College has closed in recent years.  The team is in the middle of Interterm – a period of three weeks where there are no classes and therefore the team gets to train twice a day!  Since Smith Coach Tim Bacon is Canadian (coached the Canadian Jr. National Team that included World Champion Jonathon Power), the Smith team decided to ignore the tiny amount of snow that is simply “business as usual” for the hardy Canadians.

The ellipticals in Smith’s fantastic Olin Gym are normally all booked – and with the team complaining (really more like whining) bout the spinning bike seats, Bacon thought it was a great opportunity to watch the Grinham’s play on the big screen while working out.  The Cable Motion machines also get a lot of usage – so another great chance to get the team working all together!

After morning practice comes lunch of course – have to refuel for the afternoon workout!
